Caterina Belluardo is from Modica, Sicily, in Italy. She graduated in MA Fashion Menswear Footwear in 2013 at the Royal College of Art, and previously attended the Cordwainers College, both in London. Caterina's background specialises in set design and costume, having achieved a diploma at the Academy of Fine Arts in Rome. Following from this Caterina worked at design projects for Camper, Manolo Blahnik, Alexander McQueen, Intel and Montague Burton.
'I am a colourist, I love clashing nuances walking on a line between kitsch and chic, tradition in shapes and innovation in materials used and textures. I always look into finding new applications for using traditional techniques.', said the designer.
Taking inspiration from the 80s Italian Memphis Design movement, Caterina combines tradition and innovation. She looked at vintage sport footwear for the shapes and constructions and interpreted them into new patterns and textures with knitwear and screen-printed nubuck. She is walking the fine line between kitsch and chic using clashing vibrant but still butch colours for a man who has a particular flair for art and attention to details.
